From charcuterie to grilled cheese and everything in between, there’s no better addition to a day at The Poet than cheese! Luckily for residents, The Poet is just a 10-minute walk along Queen St. from Toronto’s Mecca of cheese, The Leslieville Cheese Market (LCM). Let’s take a look at what makes this shop so great.

Founded in 2006 by Michael Simpson, LCM has always been envisioned as a place where you can come, try a selection of cheeses from around the world and learn a thing or two. The store now sells cheese from all over the globe including France, Belgium, Switzerland and beyond, plus a growing number of rennet free cheeses to satisfy vegetarian clients. The menu continues to grow and now includes a number of delicious foods to complement their cheese offerings including quiches, pies, fruits, and meats.
When you visit LCM, you also have the opportunity to join Club Cheese, an amazing way to get to try a number of new cheeses that you’re sure to love. As a member, you can stop by the cheese shop every month to pick up a curated package containing two new cheeses that the shop is in love with, along with a baguette and a sample of one of the shop’s other yummy treats to try. This is bound to be the best club you join in the East End.

The best way to love cheese is to learn all about it. So why not explore one of their classes? Hosted by LCM’s staff of cheese experts, you can find the right class for your taste. You can learn all about the best cheese to pair with wines or beers. There are even classes on how to prepare perfect charcuterie boards! If you have a passion for cheese, there is sure to be a class to match it.
No matter what the occasion, life is always better with cheese. With their amazing menu that goes well beyond just cheese, LCM has catered everything from weddings to corporate events to sweet 16s with amazing results. They have even created wedding cake alternatives made of cheese which are definitely worth checking out on their website! The only thing they have yet to cater is an amazing house warming at The Poet.
